FROM THE “OTHER WORLD.”

'The suggestiofi that a member of the Native race should lie sent abroad to do publicity work for New Zealand was advanced by Mr. T. Makitanara (United, Southern Maori) in the House of Representatives on Friday, but a remark about certain things which had been told him by people who came flvoin the “other world” about New Zealand’s publicity efforts caused no end of amusement.

“Did they-find it warm.?” inquired “Mr. J. A. Nash (Reform, Palmerston), amidst laughter. «■ -

Mr. Makitauara said that these people from the “other world” had expressed surprise on seeing what the New Zealanders were like, and that they were ordinary human beings. “They said, ‘We thought you had horns on,’ ” added Mr. Makitanara. (Loud laughter). “I say that this is due to the neglect of the past Government. (Renewed laughter). Through their neglect these people do not know who we are,'and I hope this Government won’t follow suit.”

Replying to a general discussion on the need for advertising New Zealand, the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. P. A. do la Perrelle) said that the Government would see to it that New Zealand was thoroughly advertised in the Old Country. “We realise the importance of bringing tourists to this country,” said the Minister. Every means by which people could be induced to come to New Zealand would be adopted. Mi’. W. D. Lysnar (Reform, Gisborne) : “Treble the amount and you will about hit it.” The Minister said he hoped that in future those who were associated in advertising New Zealand would lie brought under one control.
