TOW HALL. A brief resume of Edgar Wallace’s “The Ringer,” beading Friday’s programme at the Town Hall. “The Ringer,” an amateur hunter of criminals, tvlio has broken the law- in pursuit of his obsession — is wanted by the police, but baffles their efforts to secure him, and vanishes. Conflicting reports come as to his fate —one that he has died abroad; another that lie is returning to England to avenge his sister, who has taken her life as the result of her betrayal by a solicitor friend named Meister. . . . The solici-
tor is a sinister "figure in league with thieves and enveloped by" suspicions which cannot be proved Anothefr figure, Inspector Bliss, also comes mysteriously on the scene. The police call the cool, benevolent looking and whimsical criminologist, Dr. Lomond, into consultation, when lie returns from abroad. . . Every step is .taken to trace “The Ringer.” .... But lie remains elusive. . . . Which is the “wanted” man? . . . Where does lie lurk? . . . Is he alive? . . . Is lie dead ? The answer comes, after episodes of ever-rising suspense, iii a crashing finale, in which Meister is suddenly despatched, in the very presence of the police, and “The Ringer” stands revealed. Usual prices. “Captain Lash,” the Fox Film starring Victor McLaglen, who made his first great smashing hit in “What Price Glory,” also a Fox picture, will screen at the Town Hall on Saturday. His present vehicle is a romance of the high seas and of ports at the end of a voyage made thrilling by a love affair between an ocean liner’s fifth engineer and an adventuress. There is a mystery, and one fight after another, and an unusual love affair between the hero, McLaglen, and the heroine, Claire Windsor. Usual prices. The big 11-reel special, “Four Sons,” will screen on Monday.
