MAKING OF GOLD.
OPINION OP PROFESSOR. LOW. London', Sept. 6. Commenting on the statement that two New- Zealanders had succeeded in transmuting metals into gold, Professor A. M. Loav stated that it had long been thought it might be possible by atomic bombardment to add or subtract particles to or from actual particles composing matter, so that similar elements might, he converted. He believed that success in (spectroscopic quantities had already been attained in Russia, hut the cost of the process probably exceeded that of procuring the gold direct. This was the case when diamonds of a microscopic size were manufactured. He did not doubt that some' method would he discovered in the future. He did not believe that the quantity produced w'ould he appreciable for centuries to come.
