E. Af Ransom): — “About 30 unemployed men waited upon me this morning soliciting work, ft is impossible for the borough to relieve the situation to any extent. A large number of men have been discharged by the Maliawatu County Council, and it is understood that more are to follow. Can you give instructions for the reeommeneement of road work in the Manawatu County which will provide employment for a large l-umbov of men for some months? The position is extremely acute. Many men are on the verge of starvation.”
