Mr. and Mrs. I. Corn left by ear yesterday for Napier,
Mrs. John Ross, of Thynne St., left on Tuesday for Auckland to spend a holiday with her daughter, Mrs. Crowe.
Mr. E. M. Blake, F.R.1.8.A., one of the best known of Wellington’s architects, died yesterday morning of heart failure at hiS residence in Ellice Street, aged 65 years. „
Captain Munro, superintem.ent of the Canterbury Shipping (Co., arrived in Foxton last night to supervise the slight mishap to the m.v. Foxlon’s propeller. Mr. J. Wjadsworth, of the local Railway staff, is at present in hospital, where he is to undergo an operation, and during his absence liis position will be filled by Mr. G. Wilson, of' Palmerston North.
The Right Hon. Philip Snowden, British Chancellor of; the Ex(hequer, was a visitor to Foxton some 14 years ago, when he was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Iv. 'Hornblow. His visit to New Zealand at that time was in connection with a lecturing tour under the auspices of the iN.Z. Alliance.
Mr. Tlios. Dalzell, for the past Hi years manager of the Mukapai Flax Mill (Makerua), is leaving Shannon to take up milling operations in the South Island. Last Friday evening he was entertained by the employees of the mill at a farewell dinner when he iwas made the recipient of a handsome leather suitcase and travelling rug. Mr. A. R. Callander, Horowhenua County assistant engineer, has been selected from among ten applicants for the position of clerk and engineer to the Cheviot County Council, and will itake up the duties of his new position about the beginning of October. Mr. Callander went to Levin as County assistant engineer in February, 1925, after having been in the service of a Palmerston North firm as a surveyor and engineer. After a brief illness the death occurred at Palmerston North on Monday of Mjr. Alexander Cook, stock inspector of the Department of Agriculture. About a week ago T\lr. Cook, who was 53 years of age, was compelled to enter hospital, having been taken seriously ill with pneumonia. His condition became worse yesterday and he failed to rally. The late M l '- Cook, who hailed from Otago, had been in the Government serpice for a number of years, being stationed at Opunake and iStratford before coming to Palmerston North. The late Mr. Cook was a member of the Manawatu Rabbit Board hems' a Government representative on that body. The death occurred yesterday of Captain P. Mclntyre, in Hunterville. The late Captain Mclntyre had been until a few months ago pilot to the Wanganui Harbour Board, and at. a recent meeting of ihe board, appreciation of his long and faithful services of nineteen years were placed on record, and he was granted six months’ leave of absence before his resignation was to take place. He was engaged lor many years trading round the coast in the Manama and the Stormbird before com'mencing duties with The Harbour Board in 1911. He leaves a widow, two daughters (Misses S. and T. McIntyre), and two sons (Messrs S. and G. Mclntyre). Mr. Ernest Cannons has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Hospital Boards’ Association, in succession to Mr. A. Von Heisenberg, who recently resigned in order to take an appointment in the Department. of Health. Mr. iCannons is at present accountant, assistant secretary, and interviewer to the War Relief Association, Wellington,, a position he has held since 1919. Prior to taking up that appointment he had a wide commercial experience as an accountant, and was on active service for three years during the Great War. Mr. Cannons is a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants and of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand.
