HIGHWAYS IN MANAWATU COUNTY.

ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer (Mr. 'H. V. Bond) reported as under at Tuesday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council: — Himatangi-Foxton: River-bed metal had been spread throughout. Fascining extra banking and trimming was still in progress. Himatangi-'Rangiotu: A distance of 2 'males 42 chains 'had been reformed and metalled firom the Rangiotu end and a length of 3 miles from the Himatangi end. T'he Bainesse deviation, of 19 chains had been formed' and metalling was in progress, making a total of 5 miles 53 chains and leaving only 1 mile '6O chains to complete. Of the total metalled portion, 2 miles 30 -chains had been surfaced with ri-ver-bed metal. A general output of 208 yubic yards per day had been maintained from the Terrace End pit. Grading had been continued on all main highways. Metalling had been carried out on Whirokino, Foxton-iShannon and Him'atangiSanson roads. A-wahou: Nos. 1,2 and 6 lines had been graded, also on Poplar and Bowe’s roads, where metalling had been carried out. Motuiti road was being sanded and roughly formed up in wet places.
