MANAWATU COUNTY.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The 'Manawatu County Council met at Sanson on Tuesday, Or. W. E. IBalrber (chairman) presiding. There were also present ‘Councillors H. H. Hunt, J. Boyce, D. W. Reid, J. F. MeKelvie, W.' E. Pearce and J. H. Perrett. The Main Highways Board recommended the appointment of traffic inspectors to deal with the. over-loading of motor lorries.— The chairman reported that the county had already taken up the matter bv purchasing a load-o-me-ter and prosecutions had provided an interest and sinking fund towards the cost of the meter. —The letter was received, The Public Works intimated that no permission could be given to call tenders for completing as soon as possible the hot mix work over the Awahuri-Mt. Stewart highway, till the main highways estimates had been finalised. —The chairman remarked that it was a great pity to hold up this work while the hot mix plant was in the district. Still, everything “was in the air” and nothing could be done. The Kairanga iCounty Council forwarded £261 7s Bd, being the Manawatu Council’s share of the heavy traffic license fees for the quarter ending June 30, 1929.—Received. It was decided to approach the Oroua County Council with a view to having additional by-laws made relative to the speed of motor vehicles along main highways through townships and villages. On the motion of Cr. MeKelvie, it was resolved to make application for a loan and subsidy folr raising the southern end of Main Drain road, under the relief of unemployment scheme. TRAMWAY MANAGER’S REPORT. The tramway manager reported as follows: The chief items of ti*affie during July were:—Grain 23 tons, minerals and manure 204 J tons, general merchandise 912 tons, eggs 155 crates, Cheese 69 crates, timber 6292 s.ft., sheep 14 trucks, metal (ex Terrace End) 5603 c.yds., metal (ex crusher) 735 c.yds. The accounts showed a credit balance of £598 11/3. RATE ROLL ALTERATION'S. The following alterations were made on the rate roll:—Mrs. A. Poananga to J. TRAFFIC INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The County traffic inspector (Mr. W. Berry) reported as follows: One person, for carrying a greater load than that for which his license was taken out for was before the Couirt and fined £lO and costs. A person, for refusing to allow his load to be weighed Avas fined £1 and costs. Another for driving (his ear in a manner dangerous to the public, was fined £2 and costs. For alloAving stock to wander, a farmer Avas fined £1 10/- and costs. A start had been made Avith the cutting of the trees at the different corners. 'Building permits to the \;.iuo (of £ll3B had been applied f !i‘ and fees amounting to £4 collected. £’ines for breaches of moiov regulations amounted to £l3 and under by-laws to £1 10/-.
