SATURDAY’S RESULTS. SENIORS. iShannon 8 v. Otaki 8. Wanderers 9 v. Fox ton 9. JUNIORS. North 15 v. South 6. SCHOOLS. Wellington 6 v. Horowhenua 3. SCHOOL REPS. On Saturday Horowhenua and Wellington School reps, met on the Levin Domain. The teams were as follows: — Wellington (black): — Miller, Venn, Jenkins, Mullins, Jameson, Hennessy, Aitken, Dunsen,' Lambie, Grounsei, Hay, Maple, Gillon, McMillan, Calcinai., Horowhenua (yellow) :—Nicholson, Tamahana, Utiku, MeEwan, Webster, George, Hogg, Hunter, Pickard, Kirigsbear, Croon, Mason, Devonshire, Brown, Easton. The ipround was heavy and the consequently forward play predominated. In the early stages of the first half the yellow forwards crossed the black goal line, but the ball was forced. Prom the (kick that followed the yellow forwards again took the aggressive, Croon and Kingsbear combining well, but the black full-back Miller, found the line. JVom the line out the ball went across field to MeEwan whose dribbling rush was stopped by Miller who made a brilliant save. The blacks, now warmed up, forged way to the yellow line where by the play of Webster and MeEwan the •blaelkis were forced up field again, where a free kick given to yellow failed. The blacks now retaliated. Dunsen took the ball almost to the yellow line where from a scrum Oalcinai scored. His kick fell short. Wellington 3 —Horowhenua nil.

Shortly after the kick off an attempt at the Wellington goal by Nicholson failed and the .play was taken to the yellow twenty-five where two attempted pots put Wellington out of position and Mason and MeEwan broke away only to be stopped by Miller. For five minutes the play rested in the visitors’ twenty-five and a forcedown by Wlellington followed. Good line kicking brought yellow again within striking distance. A flree kick taken by George failed and a force down behind the black line closed the first spell. The second half opened with a break away by Utiku, but unsupported, he was grounded and the black regained much ground with line kicks. From a line out Caleinai broke away only to be taken a few yards from the yellow line. The blacks were now pressed back to half way, where from a line out all the yellow baelks handled • the ball. George sold the dummy twice, and gave the ball to MeEwan who passed again to George who evened the honours. The kick failed. Shortly after the kick off Dunsen dribbled the ball to the yellow full-back who lined it. From the line out Jenkins gave it to- Venn who beat three men and scored. The lack failed —(Wellington 6 Horowhenua 3.

For the remainder of the game yellow pressed hard. Utiku set the backs in action, hut George trying to sell the dummy again lost a good chance. Shortly after Hogg made a good ran but unsupported, and ended in a line out. The blacks now gave a very good exhibition of defensive play, stopping many actions of the yellow backs and going down |to forward rushes. Several times yellow almost crossed the line and onee front a five yards serum, Hogg trying the blind side was carried back into the field and when time blew yellow were still hammering on the black goal line, with the score against them, 6 —3. NASH GUP COMPETITION. FOXTON AND WANDERERS PLAY A DRAWN GAME. Foxton seniors were lucky to come off with honours even in their match with AYanderetrs at Easton Park on Saturday, the gam,e ending nine all. The locals were without the services of five of their players whose places were filled by juniors, namely McCo|rkindale, 0. Huff, Heta, Tap Taylor and J. McGregor, all of whom justified their inclusion, Tap Taylor and MeCorkindale being particularly prominent. When the two teams took the field the desparity in weight and size was most marked and one spectator remarked: “Wanderers will eat them.” The eating process did not eventuate.

Poxton kicked off with the' sun and a Ibreeze in their favour ( and attacked vigorously. Taylor, Stevenson and Harrison pushed the advantage. MeCorkindale and J. Huff carried on and the latter crossed from a scramble. Taylor failed with the kick. Poxton 3 Wanderers nil. Wanderers were having the best of the scrums, but the lopal smothering tactics spoilt thejr openings. Barnes kept Stevenson and Taylor busy. The black rearguard broke away and the speedy 'Bryant dashed down but his transfer was knocked on. Poxton again attaicked and from just outside the blacks’ 25 a free kick enabled Taylor to send, over a beauty —Poxton 6 —Wanderers nil. Wanderer’s rushed play to within striking distance but an infringement enabled 'Taylolr to relieve the pressure. Taylor essayed a free kick from the centre, the ball falling a few yards short. Blacks with a massed attack invaded yellow territory and iSlkelton crossed but failed to add the major points—Wanderers 3 —Poxton 6. Taylor had another shot from inside half way but failed 'to goal. Wanderers broke away and when near the yel-

low line were penalised for banging on and Foxton was relieved. Procter sprinted down but was grassed by Bryant, who later.made a dash but was brought down and Barnes saved with a line kick. Yellows followed up the advantage. The blaick full-back was collared with the ball and Heta, Barnes and Harrison bustled through and the latter scored well out. Taylor failed to convert. Foxton 9—(Wanderers 3. Foxton were attacking when half time sounded. With the wind and sun to help them it .was 'thought that Wanderers would imalke no race of the second spell and they attacked vigorously and were within an aee of crossing on two occasions. Stevenson was now playing a two-man game and bis defence was a treat to witness. Hirini marked and saved another black • onslaught. An offside infringement again saved yellows and Taylor transferred to centre. The blacks were not to be denied and Tatana made no mistake from a yellow infringement — Wanderers G —Foxton 9. The blacks came away again and Bryant was grassed almost on the fine. A marie by Barnes eased the pressure. Again Tatana essayed a penalty kick without result. Thompson, the yellow full-back, failed to take the hall and a. scrum in front of the goal ensued. A score seemed inevitable but blacks were penalised for hanging on and again yellows were relieved. Play was now fast and furious both sides going all out. . A splendid piece of concerted play by the black rearguard carried all.before them and Graham crossed. The (kick failed to rise. Wanderers 9—Foxton 9. Foxton carried play down to the blacks’ 25 and Procter got away, (but the speedy Bryant overhauled him and a scrum in front of the black goal followed. Blacks defence held good and shortly after the whistle sounded. Mr. McLeavy ably controlled the game. The outstanding back was Stevenson, the Foxton skipper, who played a strenuous and heady game throughout. He was ably supported by Taylor and Barnes. Thompson, who is Still on the sick list, was not at home as full-back. Wanderers full-back was faulty and had their three-quarter line played with better combination there would have been a different tale to tell.

Before about 9000 spectators at Carterton on .Saturday Wairarapa staved off a challenge foir the Ranfurly Shield by a margin of three points after an exciting game. Wairarapa scored 17 points (four penalty goals and a converted' try) to 14 (three unconverted and one converted try). The hero of the match was F. Fuller, playing wing three-quarter for Wairarapa, for of the 17 points scored he was responsible for 14. Altogether he had six shots at goal from penalties, none of them easy kicks, and four of them went sailing clean and true "over the crossbar, while he also converted AA’jairarapa’s sole try. Had Auckland possessed a kicker of such ability there would have been a different result to the game. The Wairarapa. team included eight All Blacks, but the Aucklanders proved themselves a faster lot. Three parts of the game was composed of scrummaging, and it was seldom that the scrum got down properly. Both sides lost opportunities through bad passing, and the Aucklanders surprised many by adopting stab-kicking methods on frequent occasions, an art in which they met their master in 'Cooke, whose kicking was a feature of the game. On the day’s play there was little difference between the teams, and AYlairarapa were lucky to ■win. The match was marred, also, by an extensive use of the whistle, though probably that was more the fault of the players than the referee.
