CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor). Sir, —Allow me to compliment the Foxton iChnunber oC Commerce for bringing under the notice of the Highways Boated tlie necessity of making the Whivokino portion of Ihe W'e'Uingt-on-Auckland main highway flood-proof. If this work is not strongly advocated by the principal aiitdmohile Association and the Manawatu County Council, which I am informed is the controlling authority, Eoxton will be side-tracked except for the devious alternate route via Shannon. To the principal users of the main national highway, the fact of Foxlon 'being side-tracked is of little concern, ibut to them the necessity of having to deviate many miles out . !' their course, with added expense and loss of time is of supreme importance. To my mind the raising of this roadway is of equal importance to the re-construction of the ,Kangiitikei bridge. The lack of pressure on the highways hoard is the clause of this mat-tor being helved so long. As a mark of national importance it should he attended to without delay. Thanking you in anticipation. Yours etc., WANGANUI.
