It is possible for the germ of foot and mouth disease to travel long distances by upper air currents and human epidemics are carried in the same way, 'according to Professor W. Dillon Wlcston, of the University school of agriculture at Cambridge. Professor Weston states that he undertook many flights in an endeavour to trace 'how plant and ■crop diseases spread, and proved that spores and bacteria were found a;t great heights. A large number of bacteria were active even two miles above the earth.
