OBITUARY.
GEORGE HOPKINS, AGED 63 YEAR'S. The death occurred at Manawatu Heads on Sunday of Mr. Geolrge Hopkins, aged 53 years. The late Mr. Hopkins was bom in Tottenham, London, in 1866 and came out to New Zealand with lias parents in 1873 at the age of seven, when his parents took up their residence in Masterton, where deceased received his early education. The late Mr. Hopkins .took up farming pursuits and later moved to Eketahuna. After some years’ residence in that district he removed to Hunterville where he married. A few years later he settled down in the Ruahine district, Taihape, where lie remained until indifferent health compelled him to leave his homestead and reside in a district with a- more equable climate. Mr. and -Mil's. Hopkins came to Foxton seven years ago where they have resided ever since, the last four years of which have been spent at the Beach. The late Mr. Hopkins was the possessor of a very loving nature and kindly and generous disposition which endeared him to a large" circle of flriends. 'Despite his indifferent health he possessed a cheerful manner. A wan who had always led a good life, and who was always thinking of and ready to help others, he will be sadly, missed by 'those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. Deceased leaves a wife and six brothers and one daughter to mourn their loss. Of the. brothers Charles resides at Pahiatua, Wlilliam at Waimere (Te Kuiiti), Percy ('Pukekohe), Louis (To Kuiti),/while .the other two are not resident in New Zealand. Mrs. Higginson, of Piopio, is a sister of deceased.
THE LATE MR. ROSS. Over fifty cars comprised the cortege which followed the remains of the late Mr. William Ross to their last resting place on Sunday. Prior to the cortege leaving the house a service was conducted by Rev. W. H. Nicholas. The casket was covered with many beautiful flowers and floral emblems which bore silent tribute to the esteem in which deceased was held locally. The pall-bearers wore Messrs A. Evoieigh, K., C., and P. Pedersen, J. Madigan and J. Tmnplin.. At the graveside upwards of two hundred mourners listened to, the service and witnessed the final rites conducted by the Rev. Nicholas afterwards silently paving their final respects to the memory of deceased. •'
