SECONDARY SCHOOLS GAMES

On Saturday Foxton Secondary Department travelled to Levin with two basket 'ball teams and a football .team to try conclusions with Levin District High 'School. Following were the results: — BASKET' BALL. FOXTON A v. LEVIN. This was a good game, some spectacular passing being witnessed, and both teams showing scientific play. Levin team included the redoubtable June Hobson and her uncanny goal “potting” gave Victory to hdr side, the game ending 13—5. FOXTON B v. LEVIN. In this game the Foxton team soon demonstrated that they were much improved compared with the last occasion on which they met Levin, and in ithe early stages of the game Foxton held the lead. In the second half, however, Foxton missed several good opportunities of scoring while Levin goaled from all angles and ran, out winners, 9 4. Miss Bindon and Miss Millies refereed both galmes. After 'the games the visitors were entertained to morning tea at the tc a rooms. Mr. Marsh 1 speaking on . behalf of Levin, congratulated the Foxton teams on the sportsmanlike gnm.e they play and said that he hoped to bring Levin teams over to Foxton in the near future. Mr. Doel and Mr. Burdes replied suitably on behalf of Foxton.

FOOTBALL. FOXTON 'D.II.S. v. LEVIN D. 11.5. The Foxton team was four short but Levin made up the team to full strength. The wet grass caused the ball to be very slippery and as a result the passing was poor. Foxton had the better backs but as the game resolved itself into a forward tussle, Levin had the advantage in the first- half and ran up 11 points, these being made up of two tries and a goal. In the .second half the conditions improved somewhat and Foxton got a better share of the play. After 'twenty minutes Murphy with a short punt cleared the ruck and with a fast dribble got within five yards of the line. Here his progress was interrupted by the full-back, but Alexander who was following up closely managed to get Ithe ball lahvay and touched down. Foxton failed with tiie kick, the final score being 11 points to 3 in favour of Levin. The team was: —'Cowley, Murphy, Alexander, Davey, D. Ohrystall, Perlreau, j. Chrystall, Yorke, Parker, Irons and Judd (and four Levin forwards).
