PERSONAL.

Mr. J. Neale, of Nelson, paid a brief business visit to Foxton yesterday. 1 The death occurred at Dunedin yesterday of the late District Telegraph Engineer, Mr. R. D. Veiteh, aged 61. Deceased was a brother of the Hon. W. A. Veiteh, Minister of Labour. After being in charge of the Presbyterian Church of St. James (Wellington) for over 40 years, the Rev. William Shirer, 0.8. E., is now retiring. During the many years that he has ministered in Wellington, Mr. Shirer has endeared himself .to the hearts of many, and those of other denominations besides his own will regret that advancing age has caused him to lay aside active work.

Mr. Richard Walter Keeys, aged 78, who had lived in Levin for many years, died suddenly on Thursday, at the cottage .where he resided alone, in Queenwood Road. A friend, Mr. John Hooper, who had been in the habit of visiting him every few days, called at the dwelling, and, getting no response to his inquiry at the door, walked in to find Mr. Keeys lying dead on the floor beside the table, where he had evidently commenced his breakfast. The deceased had complained at times of heart trouble. The deceased leaves three sons, of whom one is Mr. Alfred Keeys, of Palmerston North, the otheirs residing at Auckland and Rata..

Mr. J. Kebbell has been made a life (member of the Horowhenua A. "and P. Association. In moving that this be done, the President (Mr. R. V. Brown) . stated that the organisation had not had a stronger supporter than Mr. Kebbell, who had unfailingly come to its assisiimeo. When the Show had been at a low ebb, he gave it his substantial aid, and when the purchase of the grounds was under consideration he offered to take up debentures so that the property 'would not be out up. Mr. G. Tully added his appreciation of Mr. Kebbell’s .fidelity to the society, and said that, had it not been for Mr. Kebbell, and Mr. John Ryder, he did not. think that the town would have had the showgrounds and racecourse, as those two gentlemen took up a number of debentures and saved the situation as fan- as both organisations were concerned.
