“MOONSHINE” WHISKY.
DISTILLER HEAVILY FINED. Invercargill, July 10. Yesterday -afternoon a visit was paid by Senior-Sergeant Fox, Surge ant Abel, and Constables Beadle and Nesbit to a, farmhouse iu the Grove Bush district. The house wa-s found to be unoccupied at the time of the visit, .and it, as well as two nearby sheds, was securely locked. Acting under a warrant in llheir possession, the police forced the doolrs,’and found evidence ol! illicit -distillation in the dwel-ling-house, as well as the out-sheds. After talking stock of the position the senior-sergeant and iSei'geant Abel (returned to Inverealrgill: by car, leaving the two constables in charge of the premises. Ait about 7 p.m. the occupier arrived, and was arrested by the constables and taken to Invercargill. In the Magistrate’s 'Court this afternoon William Burke, a farmer, of 'Grove Bus'll, was fined a total of £250 on two charges .of having spirits in his possession on which full duty had not been paid, and for having on his premises apparatus suitable for distilling. The accused pleaded guilty.
