AiLL BLACKS 22, NEW -SOUTH Wales 9. i? - The All Blacks defeated New South "Wales by 22 points to 9 at Sydney yesterday. The weather was ideal. Leys replaced 'Tuck at half, otherwise -the team-, as preivously published, was unaltered. The game throughout was much below standard and was decidedly disappointing. New Zealand won in an easy fashion through generally improved form. Shortly after the commencement of play, Sontag and McWilliams broke away down the centre, but lloss repulsed them. Continuing their pressure Leys and Oliver worked Lilbume into a good position, and outpacing the opposition he scored close to the posts. Cai'leton missed the Ikiek at goal. Play -then hung in New South Wales’ quarter till the local side was penalised, when Oarleton again missed his shot at goal. New South Wales were penalised three times in succession. The game then worked into midfield till ’Stringfellow with a good run transferred the ball to Wales territory and another penalty enabled Lilburne to register a fine goal seventeen minutes after the start.

Almost immediately E. Ford scored a, brilliant try for N.S.W., but the kick failed. After give and take play, Leys and Oliver then sent the ball to Grenside who (made a splendid dashing run, but Ross -brought the Hawke’s Bay man down in capital fashion. 'Following upon -play well in midfield another penalty enabled Lilburne to kiclk a fine goal in twentyfive minutes’ play. From smart work on the blind E. Ford registered his second try in the scores stood New Zealand 9 kick. Penalties continued to be awarded against New South Wales and Lilbume gained much ground by effective line kicking. At half time the scores stood Ne wZealaad 9 New South Wales 6. In the second spell play commenced in a sensational -manner. Within two minutes a short sharp bout of passing saw Oliver and Cai'leton with the ball brilliantly running down the side line and a fine centering kifik by Cai'leton was smartly fielded by Geddes who scored under the posts. This Lilburne converted. (Continued spirited attacking by the fßlaeks and* a fine -bout of exchanges ended in Oliver running through to Ross and -Hook finished the movement under the posts. Lilburne again converted. As a result of some good passing on the Blacks’ line New South Wales almost -crossed and were awarded a penalty try for obstruction, bub Bartley failed at goal.

Improved play was now seen on both sides and as a result of a good. Black forward passing bout

the ball reached Grenside who crossed at the corner. Lilburne’s kidk failed. Play during the l’emainder of the spell was principally in the Blacks’ favour and in New South Wales quarters, Ross saving repeatedly. As a consequence of Stringfellow fumbling a high' ball the Blues invaded New Zealand territory where a penalty was given for obstruction to Ross, who essayed a goal, missing narrowly. New South Wales were again temporarily prominent in an attack which broke down as a result of fumbling the ball.

Just on time a penalty gave Bartley a chance blit he missed the goal and the game ended New Zealand 22—New South Wales 9.
