THANKSGIVING SERVICES
In common with all churches throughout the Empire, 'thanksgiving services were held in all the. local churches on Sunday.
The Presbyterian and Anglican congregations held a combined service in All Saints’ Anglican Church at 11 a .an. which was attended by the Mayor and Borough Councillors and representatives of friendly societies. The girl guides and boy scouts also paraded and attended the service. The printed form and order of service as adopted throughout the Empire was followed. The Rev. W. H. Nicholas read the lesson's and the Rev. W. 11. Walton in the course of a 'brief sermon (said that they in common with citizens of thle Empire throughout the world had met in a service of praise and thanksgiving. In the person of King George they had a ruler of unblemished character and example. He wa's ito be compared to King Hezekiali in his character, one who led his people in the ways of righteousness and truth, and he prayed that like him His Majesty the King would he spared to his people for many years. At the conclusion of a. very impressive service a (retiring collection amounting' to £lO 1/6 was taken up in aid of the sufferers in the recent earthquake. At a service held at Oroua Downs in the afternoon the collection totalled 17/6. The total aiinount collected has been forwarded direct to the ministers in the devastated area for special cases.
