FOOTPATHS AND ROADS.
At last- nght’s Borough Council meeting Cr. Rand again brought up the question of metalling - Purcell Street footpath, which he described as one of the dirtiest streets to walk on in Foxton. A motion had beien placed on the' books years ago, he said, to have this footpath put in order, but nothing had yet been done in the matter. The Mayor said the difficulty was to get -suffilcient metal to spare for this work. The iClerk looked up the minute book and discovered a (motion had been carried in February of this year to asphalt Purcell Street footpath -as soon as tar -was available. Cr. Oowley -drew the (Council's attention to the bad state of Avenue Road which was filled with pot hole's. The (top end of Union (Street was also in a bad and dangerous condition. The use of the grader oiithe two roads mentioned, he thought, would greatly improve matters. The above matters were noted for attention. Cr. Barron asked when the portion of highway between Victoria ■Street and the junction with the Main Highway just north of the railway line was going to be tarsealed. The Mayor said this portion of road had.,been put in fairly good order recently. It would cost a great deal to tar seal this portion of road and would necessitate the raising of a loan which he did not think -the ratepayers would he inclined to sanction. The matter would have to be faced sooner or later, however. No action was (taken in regard to the matter.
