THE HEMP MARKET

JUNE GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for the hemp, tow, stripper tow and shipper slips for the month of June, have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: —

[ Four bales at Auckland were graded superior. Six bales at Auckland and one at Wellington ♦were graded ifine. Thirty-eight , bales at Auckland, 54 at Wellington, 12 at Foxton and 32 at the Bluff were rejected. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number 'for the corresponding period of last ' year being given in parenthesis:— Superior 4 (nil), fine 7 (nil), good fair 364 (108), high fair 1130 (1044), low fair 1198 (1276), common 436 (197), rejected 136 (64), condemned nil (1), a total of 3275 bales as against 2690 hales graded the same period last year, an increase of '585 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1159, Wellington 576, Foxton 328, Picton 193, Dunedin 17, Bluff 1002. The following shows ithe detailed particulars of the tow graded: — Ports Ist 2nd 3rd Auckland 156 136 114 Wellington 16 72 33. Foxton Picton - 36 Bluff Dunedin Eight bales at Auckland and nine at the Bluff weii’e condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: —Ist grade 172 (48), 2nd grade 490 (408), 3lrd grade 376 (411), condemned 17 (33), a total of 1055 bales as against 895 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 160 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 414, Wellington 121, Foxton 44, Picton 36, Bluff 402, Dunedin 38. 'Stripper Tow: —One hundred and .forty-seven bales at Wellington and 88 at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. Fourteen bales at Wellington were graded 3rd grade. A total number of 249 bales as against nil last year. Stripper Slips ; —Six bales at the Bluff aud six at Dunedin were graded 2nd grade. One bale at Auckland and 61 at the Bluff were graded 3rd grade and one bale at Auckland aud 14 at the Bluff were condemned. The total number graded was 89 bates as against, 69 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 20 bales.
