SERIOUS CHARGES.
ALLEGED CHASE WITH REVOLVER. Auckland, June 30. Robert Maddox, aged 30, a quarryiman living at Takapuna, walked into the Auckland police station yesterday and stated that another man had criminally assaulted his wife. He said that he chased the other man with a revolver, and the police decided to detain Maddox while inquiries, were made. Last, evening a charge of attempted murder was preferred against him. Maddox’s version of the'matter is that lie .went to work as usual on Friday and returned home for tea. Later in the evening he said he noticed that his wife was upset and he began to question her. She then began to sob bitterly and made a serious allegation against, another man. Maddox is said to have told (he police that he located the man ho was seeking, but in response to two pulls of the trigger the revolver only clicked. A development to-day was- the arrest of Jerko Didovieh, a Dalmatian, charged with nape.
