INSPECTOR'S REPORT.

The inspector (Mr. D. R. Barr mil reported as follows: — “Dining the past month I have been engaged in the usual work of the general inspection of Board area, properties. The weather has not ibeen very suitable during the latter part of the month as far as rabbit'destruction work is con - cerned, but the heavy rains that have fallen will he of great benefit. during the coining weeks as rabbits will all have been driven from the cover and low-lying lands on to the ridges, where they can be more effectively dealt with. Farmers, therefore, should take every advantage at present in dealing with the eradication of the pest, and in most of the properties in the Board area this will not curtail any great amount of work. “During the month I sent out the usual statutory notices 'under the Aicf, together witli a circular re poisoning and fumigation, to all rate-pavers in the Board’s district. This work has been held up to some extent owing to the adverse weather conditions experienced, hut as soon as the weather moderates I would strongly advise framers to have the work put in hand and have all rabbit destruction worth finished and their properties in good order before the busy spring season is at band. In the case of those fu'migeting with cyanide, bettor results will be obtained if dogs are employed to drive out all rabbits which may be concealed in any cover such as rushes, etc. Then again, as pointed out personally many times, inspection should be made of all completed fumigation work three or four days after its completion, .in order to find any burrows which may have been missed, and if this inspection is mode at least once a fortnight, no tvonible should be found in eo<molefely keeping down the pest on all fumigated areas. On a great majority of properties I have found that once fumigation is canned out no further cake is taken until the fanner receive notice from the Board that rabbits are again, showing up on. his property. “During the coining month I shall be- engaged in following with inspection the notices sent out during the past month.”—Adopted.
