Air. WJ. J. Kane, Government auditor, is at present visiting Foxton on official business. The death is announced from London of Dion Boucieault, the actor, at the age of 70. Mr. Boueicault was born in New York, and first appeared on the stage in 1879, in the city where he was born. All-. F. A. Alas on, headmaster of the local D.H. School, who was indisposed with a. severe cold during the week-end, was able to resume duty yesterday. All*. Harold Osborne has been confined to his bed for some days with an attack of influenza. We are pleased to repoat that lie is progressing isatisfaictorily towards recovery. Katongajiui, a chief of high rank, died at Parikalka, Taranaki, on Saturday, 95 years old. Born in Waikato, of the family of Potatau and Tawhiao, Katonganui went to Taranaki about 75 years ago. The Governor-General has received fi’om the Prince of Wales the following reply to the message sent by His Excellency to Has Royal Highness conveying the 'respectful congratulations and good wishes of the Government and people of New Zealand on the occasion of .his birthday: —'“Aly grateful thanks to Your Excellency and the Government and people of New Zealand for Birthday 'Congratulations which I much appreciate. —Edward P.”
