Nurse -Barber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Barber, of Foxton, who has .been seriously i'll in Auckland is, AA’-e are pleased to state, now progressing satisfactorily. The late Mrs. Mary Ann Esson, whose death occurred at Picton last week, at the age of 86 years, was the first Avhite lady -to arrive in Picton, going there with her parents in 1857, when the district was fully occupied -by Maoris. For over seventy years the late Mrs. Esson had been a continuous resident of the town, and had -lived an active life up to Avi-thin the -past yeatr or so. A general favourite with everyone, she leaves a. proud record 'behind her of a long life AV-ell lived. She leaves a family of six sons.

The funeral of John Bry-an, the four-year-old son of the HproAvh-e----mia -County Chairman (Mr. G. A. Mo-mk) and Mrs. Monk, took place on Tuesday and was attended by a large and representative following. A service Avas held in the Church of England at Rei-'kora-iigi, when the cortege proceed* ed to the cemetery ait Waikanae. The service at the church ami graveside was conducted, -by the Rev. H. Wilson, of P-araparaumu. Members of various local bodies throughout the restrict, and many old settlers, welre present, and a large nninibcr of wreaths and messages of condolenlee Avere received.
