THE RATIFICATION. Vatican City, June 7. The exchange of ratifications of the Lateran Treaty carried out in the forenoon was a picturesque ceremony, notably with Signor Mussolini, the first Premier of a United Italy ever to set foot in the Vatican, when he entered Cardinal Caspar,ri’s palace to deposit the State’s ratification. Directly the ceremony was over the Pope’s S wiss Guards imounted sentry at the Vatican Oily approaches as a sign of sovereignty. Simultaneously the bronze gates of the palace were thrown open as a signal of peace between Church and State.
