BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. .r The ordinary meeting of the Fox - ton Borough Council was held last night. GAS 'MANAGER’S REPORT. The gas manager (Mr. W. S. Heyes) reported as follows: — During the month seven blocked services had been attended to and one stove connected.- The rest of the tlime had been taken up at the works and attending to consumers’ requirements generally. The amount of gas (manufactured during the month of May was 334,500 ft., which with the amount in the holder on April 30th, 17,000 ft. (made a total of 351,500 ft. During the month 282,100 ft. was used by consumers, 20,000 ft. at the works and there was 17,000 ft. in the holder on May 31st, making a total of 319,100 ft. accounted for and leaving 32,400 ft. representing 9.2 per cent, unaccounted for. Twenty-nine tons of coal were carbonised yielding 11,535 o.ft. of gas to the ton and producing 7 tons of coke. The receipts for the month totalled £156 9s Od and were made up as follows: —Gas sales (lighting) £2O 4s lOd, heat and power £ll3 12s Bd, coke sales £l9 0s Id, tar sales 7/6, services and fittings £2 3s 3d, miscellaneous £1 0s Bd. The expenditure f o|r the month totalled £2ll 18s 2d and was made up as follows:- —Coal £BO 15s lOd, salaries and wages £SO 14s 4d, pipes and fittings £4 0s lOd, engine oil £lO 12s 4d, tools 19/3, repairs 12/-, insurance 12/10, cartage and freight 3/6, Interest- and Sinking Fund £63 7s 3d. The report was adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman (Mr. G. A. Huntley) reported that during the month the road staff had been engaged in cleaning diraiins in Spiing Street, Norbiton Road, Russell, .Jenks and Foley Streets. Ruts had heen patched in Duncan Street and Sandon Road and the road grader had heen used in trimming up Moutoa, Road and Duncan Street. WATERWORKS REPORT. The-waterworks foreman (Mr. W. Neville) reported that during the month two water services were laid, three blocked house drains cleaned, one split water main repaired, assisting the road forejman, grading Duncan and Union Streets, and repairing Russell Street sewer, and general maintenance work, by-la ; ws, etc. RESERVES COMMITTEE. The Reserves Committee recommended that a tar-sealed footpath, four feet wide, he constructed through the cemetery from the Avenue Road gate to No. 6 line gate. Tliat about 30 or 40 yards of sand he taken from the cutting atthe Ajvenue entrance to the cemetery and spread on the side "of the road opposite the cemetery gates to provide 'better parking space for cars. —Adopted. PUBLIC- WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Comlmittee recommended that the estimates for the main highway maintenance as drawn up be approved at an estimated cost, of £437 9s fid of which the Council’s share will he £145 16s fid. —Adopted.
