Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, JUNE 8, 1929. DAIRY FACTORY FOR FOXTON.
AN agitation has been simmering for some years past to establish a dairy factory in Foxton. On one occasion an offer was received from a firm to finance and manage the undertaking provided the requisite number of cows was guaranteed and provision was made whereby the suppliers could acquire the concern on suitable terms at a subsequent date if they so desired. The offer, however, did not go beyond the preliminary overtures. On Tuesday evening next a meeting of all interested in the project will be held and, we are informed, sufficient support will be forthcoming to go forward with the proposal. JThere are a number of people with small areas of land within the bolrough who would welcome the advent of a dairy factory, but it is questionable whether the dairy farmers in the Moutoa district would favour transferring their supplies from the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Go. to Foxto.n. This company is well-established and admirably managed but the area it serves could well maintain two factories. It remains to be seen ■whether the northern end can guarantee sufficient cows to justify the project. Wje sincerely hope it cap and we wish the promoters every success. The result of the meeting’s deliberations will be awaited with interest as Foxton has had its egg in one basket for too long a period.
