THE KING’S BIRTHDAY.
Yesterday was the sixty-fourth anniversary of the birth of His Majesty King George V., and was observed as a close holiday. His Majesty was born in 18G5 and was King Edward’s second son. His elder 'brother, the Duke of Clarence, however, died in 1802, and upon the death of King Edward in 1910 King George, ascended the Throne. The hope is being expressed on all sides that His Majesty, having recovered iromjiis long and severe illness, will be able to throw off his present indisposition, and that the arrangements for Thanksgiving Day on 10th June will not have to U- cancelled. Auckland, June 2. The Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergusson) has forwarded the following message for submission to the King on the occasion of His Majesty’s birthday:— “I beg 'to tender to Your Majesty the 'loyal and most respectful good wishes of the Government and people of New Zealand on the occasion of Your Majesty’s birthday, and a renewed assurance of the unfailing devotion of Your Majesty’s subjects in this Dominion to the throne and person. All are concerned ito hear of Your Majesty’s indisposition, and trust that it will not retard the complete restoration 'to health to which Your Majesty’s people have been looking forward.” BIRTHDAY HONOURS. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral has announced that His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased on the occasion of his birthday to confer upon the gentlemen named below the honours mentioned:— KNIGHT BACHELOR.
