EOXTON JUNIORS DEFEATED. .Shannon -and Eoxton junior teams .met -on the Shannon domain in the presence of a fair attendance on Saturday, when Eoxton suffered its first defeat of the season. The ground was very slippery and light rain fell most of the -bimle. A good game was witnessed, considering t lie eircium s tanc es. Eoxton was (represented by the following:— Stevenson, iCroon, Huff, Neilson, Williams, Mathews, Procter, Wright, Sjmith, McGregor, H’eta* Barber, Taylor, ltankin, Anderson. .Shannon Hacked off and .soon the red pack, led by Guy and Lee, book ■the game to yellows’ twenty-five, but a forward rush by the Eoxton team, headed iby Anderson, saw Mason mark to save. The yellow backs now attacked and Procter went over, Huff converting—Eoxton s—'Shannon nil. In a passing bout between the red backs, .Newman beat Croon, but Stevenson came to the rescue and saved a score. In another determined advance, Huff cleared. Ngatuna led another forward rush, which was taken up by the hacks, to be spoilt by a knockon. Mason had a shot at goal from a penalty but missed and the ball was sent to touch. From the lineout, Jude dropped a beautiful goal—Eoxton 5 —'Shannon 4. Taylor and McGregor led a charge to reds’ line, but Saxon stopped and found the line at half way. Taking' the ball, Guy led a forward rush but Huff stopped it and the Eoxton forwards returned to the attack, Birchall ending .their career. Just before the half time sounded -a penalty gave Eoxton a shot at goal which failed. Guy and Lee led the Shannon forwards to the attack but the game soon returned. ißirchall gained ground with, good line kicks Eoxton forwards now attacked in good style, no fewer than four scrums being awarded on the
Shannon line. In each case, Mabey proved too good in defence. Eventually Mason cleared, and a good passing bout by the home backs compelled Foxton to force. Newman next made a run down but Stevenson took him on the line, the ball went to McEwan, who ran through the Foxton hacks and passed to Mason, who registered a goal. Shannon B—Foxton 5. Balt next sent Saxon over, Ma-» son failing to convert —Shannon 11 —Foxton 5.
Shannon forwards .look charge from then on and several good rallies were made for the line, Huff saving. Bircliall missing a field goal by inches and Mason failed with a penalty. Croon took the ball and made a dash for the red line, ■being eventually held up by five of the Shannon teaim. The home forwards returned to the attack and Curran wont over, Mason adding the major points —Shannon .10 — Foxton 5. Mr. H. Pene controlled the game.
