SYDNEY’S STUDENT HOOLIGANS.
DISGRACEFUL SCENES IN CITY. THE CENOTAPH DESECRATED. Sydney, May 22. The Tivoli Theatre will never again he at the service of University undergraduates. This official statement followed a Commemoration night of unprecedented hooliganism, during which the Vice Chancellor of the University was howled down when lie tided to restore order, and the president of the Undergrads’ Association was petted with crackers. Others were counted out. Jack ©arty, a well-known English comedian,' leapt from the stage and punched a student. Other artists refused to go on and some who did left in having been pelted with rotten eggs and all manner of vegetables and fruit. The orchestra suffered the same indignity. A few students were ejected from the theatre. Afterwards a crowd of several hundred students careered madly through the streets shouting wildly and dislocating traffic. The Centotaph in Martin Place was desecrated by several leaders of the demonstration, who threw the wreaths to the ground and broke the flower vases. Two arrests were effected.
