The estimated population of New Zealand proper on May 31st this year, .including Maoris, is 1,470,049, according to a return furnished in the Gazette iby Mr. Malcolm Eraser, Government Statistician, while the estimated total population of the Dominion, including Samoa, the Cook Islands, Niue, etc., is 1,t'529,720. | The estimated population of New ‘ Zealand proper, including Maoris, 1 is 1,404, 05(i, while the Maori population is 05,093. The North Island population, including Maoris, is 932,322, excluding Maoris 809,530, and of the i South Island 538,327 and 535,420 ! respectively.
