OTAKI (9). ! ! ‘ 'This match played at Otaki on Saturday drew a large number of spectators, and all were treated to a fine game. Foxton kicked off for B. Taliiwi to centre well up field. This was followed by a rush by the Otald vanguajrd who carried the ball over the line. Over-eagerness resulted in ball being fiunbled and Foxton accepted a force. Then Byrne, Wright, Ogier, and Meta were prominent, and after a slight advantage to Foxton the Otald forwards again got under way and pressed. A .free kick saw Meta miss the goal, and Foxton accepted another force. From a line out the visiting forwards broke away but a knock-on stayed the onslaught, and Otaki retaliated with a forward rush up-field. Meta secured the oval at half-way and made a good run, then passed to Enoka, but a forward pass spoiled a chance of scoring. From a scramble Foxton headed up field, but gradually the ball came back, and a good forward rush saw Otaki attacking. Foxton’s full-back saved and in turn the visitors worked up field for Winterburn to save by a fine kick. From a line out Foxton attacked but off-side play by Prim saw Foxton kick a goal . Play hovered about midfield, then the Otaki backs got under way and Meta, by a good run, heat a couple of opponents, passed to B. Tahiwi, who cut in, dummied, and dived over the line at the corner. Meta failed to convert,' 3 —3. From the kick-off Otaki again attacked, but a bad pass by Enoka spoiled a likely chance. Foxtoii cleared and .worked to half - way; then their forwards broke away and scored a nice try at the corner. The kick at goal failed, 6 —3. Foxton backs then got under way and pressed, but G. Rhode# saved by good play. Foxton kept up the attack and nearly scored, but Meta saved, and later missed an easy kick at goal by a breach by the visiting, full-back. Otaki forwards headed another rush, with Bryne and Wright prominent, the latter eventually scoring. Meta missed, (3 —G. Foxton pressed after the kick oft, and a line out near the Otaki line saw Foxton indulge in smart passing, ending in a score. The kick at goal failed, 9 —6. Good work by D’Ath and Ogier followed, then Rhodes became prominent but Foxton saved. With play at midfield Meta secured, passed to Prim, back to Meta, to D’Ath, who raced over at the corner, thus equalising scores, the kick at goal being missed by Meta. Three minutes later the game ended. Mr. N. Bevan was referee. During the game Ogier received a nasty knocks from an elbow. His eye and ear were cut.
