Mr. M. P. Casey, of the Taranaki district, is at present relieving the local stationmaster (Air. J. Martin) Avho is on annual leave. Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., of Whangarei, has been appointed Chief Justice for Samoa, and it is understood he leaves New Zealand at. the end of this (month. The friends of Mr. C. Anderson Avill regret to learn that he is leaving Foxton on 'Sunday to take up a position at Raetihi with Air. D. P. Searfe. The Football Club Avill lose a good secretary, who . was keenly interested in the game and who was well and popularly -known throughout the town. The death occurred ait Wellington on Sunday of a Avell-knoAvn member of the Presbyterian ministry, Rev. James Kennedy Elliott, D.D. He Avas born in Belfast (Ireland) in 1845, and was educated at the Belfast Academy and Queen’s College, Belfast, where lie gained his B.A. degree. He Avas a gifted preac-her and his sermons were most In .lliant, He was "Moderator of the North Island Presbyterian Assembly for the year previous to the merger with the South Island, and, with the late Rev. Jas. Paterson, did much to bring about the happy consumlmation. He was also one of the original governors of Scots College. Dr. Elliott did not leave New Zealand until 1912, Avhen he paid a visit to ithe Old Country, and in Belfast was given a most cordial welcome (although he had been away for nearly a quarter of a century) and was aAvarded the distinction of Doctor of Divinity by the Royal College there. Up till tire last he Avas a book-lover and a student. Rev. Dr. Elliott leaves two sons —Dr. J. -S. Elliott, of Wellington (president of the New Zealand •branch oi' the (British Medical Association) and Air. R, D. Elliott, of the Government School Dental Faculty. His only daughter is Mrs. J. W. Shaw, of Auckland.
