BOROUGH COUNCIL

FIRST MEETING OF NEW COUNCIL. The first meeting of the newly elected Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening, when the*Alayor was installed in the Mayoral chair and declarations were signed by the Councillors. Those present were the Mayor (Air. M. E. Perreau) and Crs.' R. J. Thompson, John Ross, F. Robinson,. S. E. Cowley, A. R. Crowe, D. K. Barron, C. Rand, R. Rangiheuea, F. Lueinsky and the Town Clerk (Air. Wm. Trueman). The Aiayor extended a welcome to the Councillors and congratulated those who had been re-elected, lie expressed the hope that the Council would work in harmony and in the interests of the borough as n whole. Cr. John Ross was elected Deputy Aiayor for the ensuing term. The following cdmuiittees were set up for the ensuing year:— Public Works: —The Aiayor and Crs. A. R. Crowe, F. Lueinsky, S. E. Cowley and R, J. Thompson. Reserves: —The Aiayor and Crs. D. R. Barron, F. Robinson, C. Rand and R. J. Thompson. Gasworks: —The Aiayor and Crs. Crowe, Rand, Rangiheuea and John Ross. Finance: —The Mayor and Crs. Lueinsky, Cowley, Rangiheuea and Ross. The Aiayor to be chairman of all committees.
