APRIL GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month iof April have 'been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: — Ports G.F. ILF. L.F. Chalmers Bluff 5 511 553 55 Thirty-one bales at Auckland, 298 a t Wellington, 54 a t Fox ion, 3 a 1 Dunedin and 14 at the Bluff were rejected. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding - period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Good fair 432' (447), high fair 3012 (2400), low fair 3300 (2474), eomimon 478 (537), rejected 400 (101), condemned nil (25), a total of 7082 bales as against 0050 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 1032 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1704, Wellington 2947, Foxton 1374, Picton 140, Blenheim 45, Dunedin 228, Port Chalmers 100, Bluff 1138. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded: — Ports Ist 2nd 3rd Auckland 57 285 197 Wellington 10 479 131 Foxton 48 230 30 Pieton 34 Bluff Twenty-nine bales at Auckland and 42 at Wellington were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: —Ist grade 155 (157), 2nd grade 1245 (938), 3rd grade 506 (541), condemned 71 (55), a total of 2037 bales as against 1091 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 346 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 568, Wellington 088, Foxton 308, Pieton 34, Bluff 459. Stripper Tow: —Seventeen bales at Auckland and 144 at Wellington were graded 2nd grade. Eight bales at Auckland <\Vere graded 3rd grade, two bales were condemned. A total number of 171 bales as against nil, showing an increase of 171 bales. Stripper Slips: —Three bales at Auckland and 172 at the Bluff were graded 3rd grade. Twenty-three bales at the Bluff were condemned. The total number graded was 198 as against 178 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 20 bales.
