DISTRICT HIGH SCH OOL COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the local D.H. School Committee was held last night presided ofer by Mr. J. K. Hornblow (chaiiiman). There were also present: Messrs Hutchins, Scott, G. F. Smith, Perreau, John Ross and Rangiheuea (hon. secretary). Correspondence was read from the Education Board enclosing plans for the erection of an incinerator, and it was decided to adopt the plan and make application for a grant in aid of same. A lengthy discussion took place re the conveyance of children from a distance to the school. It was pointed out that about 20 children had to walk from two to three miles from Motuiti and Himatangi and with the approach of winter would suffer hardship apart from the danger of traffic on the highway. It was decided to submit the facts to the Board and endeavour to obtain a grant froin the Native department. Miss Williams, infant mistress, wrote forwarding her resignation and retirement from the teaching profession. The writer paid a fine tribute to the headmaster and teaching staff, and referred to the progress of educational matters during her term of service at the school. It was .decided to accept Miss Williams’ resignation with regret and to place on record the committees appreciation of her long and faithful services. It was also decided to join with the teaching staff and children in tendering a farewell to Mss Wjllialms at the school to-morrow evening. Reports of inspections to the school during the month were made and Messrs Scott and Smith were appointed visitors for the month.
