Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, MAY 2, 1929. THE NEW COUNCIL.
THE local Borough Council election yesterday did not arouse much interest for the reason that the candidates, without exception, were of one mind in connection with civic affairs and, further, the administration of the late -Council has met with general approval. The Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau) was returned unopposed and during his teilm of of)fi,ce has discharged his duty faithfully and well. All the sitting -Councillors who stood were returned. A last minute withdrawal was that of Mr. M. H. Walker which caused general regret as he has rendered invaluable service to the borough for many years and his absence from the Council table will lie regretted (by all. The new' Councillors are Messrs Barron, Crowe and F. Robinson. We congratulate the new Councillors and feel sure that the interests of the borough are in excellent hands and that the same team spirit will obtain as was manifested in the late Council.
