ANZAC DAY.
MESSAGE TO THE KING. Auckland, April 26. The Governor-General has sent the following reply to the message received from His Majesty, the King on the occasion of Anzac Day: — “The people of New Zealand have read with heartfelt appreciation the gracious message which Your Majesty has sent to them for Anzac Day. The knowledge that the thoughts of Your Majesty and the Queen are with them on this day set apart for reverent remembrance touches them deeply.” EARL JELLICOE’S CABLEGRAM. The New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association yesterday received the following cablegram from London: —“I wish on this anniversary of the historic landing in which New Zealanders played such a gallant part to express on 'behalf of their comrades at Heme their undiminished admiration and their sympathy with the dependants of those who made the great sacrifice. I am laying a wreath on the Cenotaph to-day in the name of the exservice men ‘ of the Empire.— (Signed) Jellieoe.”
