GLOAMING AND LIMERICK
An interesting study (says “Phaeton” in the Auckland Herald) is the figures bearing on the amount of prize-money respectively won by Gloaming and Limerick at the close of the Jive-year-old stage of their respective careers. In considering the question it has, however, to be remembered that, unlike Limerick, Gloalming was not raced at two \oars old, and also that something went wrong with Gloaming at four years old. From the following statement it will be seen that Limerick’s record is well ahead of the sum won by Gloaming at the period named. Gloaming. Limerick £ £ At 2 years did not run 1,595 At 3 years 12,176 11,874 At 4 years 4,807 18,158 At 5 years 5,630 6,184 22,613 37,811 Gloaming raced until nine years old and his winnings in prize-money during the seven seasons in which lie played a part amountecLto £43,100. it is quite possible for Limerick to beat Gloaming’s record in the event of his remaining sound.
