OBITUARY.
CAROLINE SATIIER.YEY, AGED 74 YEARS. There passed away on Thursday at the residence of her daughter (Mrs A. Cook), Futter St., Foxton, Mrs Caroline Satherley, relict of the late Mr George Satherley, aged 74 years. The late Mrs Satherley was one of a hand of fast disappearing pioneers and was horn in Wellington in 1855, and subsequently resided at Sandon, where she married her late husband, Mr George Satherley, and, with him, took up her residence at Moutoa, where her late husband was manager of the Moutoa Estate. That was in the days when Moutoa was a forest of giant flax and swamp, with a rough track out to civilisation. It was an easy matter to get lost if one got off the track. Periodically the floodwaters of the Manawatu would inundate the countryside for miles and leave the family isolated. ,Such pioneering difficulties were faced by the late Mgs Satherley, with the same courage and fortitude which characterised her spirit in her recent illness. At a later period her husband took up a bush section in the same locality, which he converted into a highly improved farm and where they resided for a period of 42 years. The deceased’s husband passed away 15 years ago and a son about 14 months ago. Of a cheerful and sympathetic disposition, she was ever ready to assist anyone in time of trouble, or need, and during the war took pleasure in patriotic work.
