SCHOOL SPORTS TROPHY.

HOBSON SHIELD WON BY LEVIN. The Hobson Shield, the challenge trophy tor school spoils in this district, was contested on Saturday at Levin, when the slieild passed from the Fox ton District High School into the hands of the Levin District High School. Six teams participated representing four schools, there being two teams each from the Levin and Foxton District High Schools and one each from the Oliau and Tokomaru State Schools. The final result of the competition allocated aggregate points as follows: —

Levin A 72, Foxton A G 5, Levin B 42, Foxton B 30, Tokomaru 20, Oliau 5. At one stage Levin A were 20 points behind Foxton A and the issue was in doubt until the last race had been ran.

Mr F. A. Mason extended congratulations to the winners on behalf of Foxton and referred to the sporting instinct of the two smaller schools —Tokomaru and Oliau — which had prompted them to send in teams that, while having no chance of winning the Shield this year, had made the competition more strenuous and Levin’s success more meritorious than it would otherwise have been. Mr Foss spoke on behalf of the Levin School. Cheers were given for the winners and losers and the donor of the Shield, bringing a happy function to a close. The following are the results of the events: — 50yds, boys under 10:JL Ransom (Levin B) 3, 11. Rohinson (Foxton B) 2, D. Williams (Foxton A) 3. 50yds. girls under 10: C. Voss (Toko.) 1, B.
