PAYS BRIEF VISIT TO FOXTON

The Hon. Ransom, Minister of Public Works, paid a ibrief visit to t'oxton at noon to-day while en route to Taranaki. He wias mot by Air. J. Linklater, ALP., the Mayor (Mr. Perreau), Air. W. E. Barber ( Chairman of the Alanawatu County Council) and Mr. J. K. Hornblow (President.of the Chamber of Commerce).

The AJinister who was accompanied by Airs. Hansom, was . entertained at luncheon at Whyte’s Hotel. In formally -welcoming the Minister, Air. Linklater paid a tribute to the efficient maimer in -which tho lion. Air. Ransom was discharging the onerous duties .which devolved upon him, particularly in regard to uneuiploylmeiit. At the present time the Alanawatu electin' .present time the Alanawatu electorate was not 'going - to detain the Minister with requests, but he would like the Minister to pay a bgief visit to Moutoa and inspect the area v. ll'ich was subjected to Hooding and which 'was s'ausing the settlers grave anxiety. Air. Linklater also referred to the hanking scheme to deal with the llo'od menace. The Minister said that his visit on this occasion was just a look in and quite unofficial. He, however, was only too pleased to discuss any matter of interest to the district which required attention. The Alanawatu was not faced with the same difficulties which beset many of the hack country settlers. A’ personal inspection was better than much correspondence. lie would he pleased to visit Alouitoa and inspect the protective works there and nt a later date would make an official visit to the constituency. Air. Perreau asked that the Borough Council obtain some relief ro the cartage of metal on the railways. ALr. W. E. Barber referred to tho proposal to improve the F'oxtonAJoutoa highway so that traffic would not be interfered with owing to Hoods. The party proceeded to Moutoa and the Minister then continued his journey to Stratford.
