Some difference of opinion to oik place in the New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court last week regarding the distance at which a defendant shot at a pig. “I will stand on the spot and 'you can use the gun on me from the same distance. It will tingle me up a bit, but I ean stand that,” he said, in endeavouring to impress the magistrate that he fired at a range which would not have left-much more than a stinging impression upon ,a hardy hoar. The Challenge at first went unaccepted, but counsel who was prosecuting for ■ the .Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals attempted to strengthen his case later by facetiously remarking that he would he prtpared to fire the gun if the Court indemnify him against a subsequent criminal action.
