RUGBY FOOTBALL
CANTERBURY UNION OPPOSES AUSTRALIAN TOUR. . Opposition was shown by meinberes -of the Canterbury Rugby Union to a proposal to -send a New Zealand team to Australia in June. The majority of mem|bers appeared to -be opposed to the tour, among the- reasons advanced being that a tour so, eafly would spoil the whole Now Zealand season, that it would add -to the already great amount of travelling required of Rugby players and anight traise trouble with employers. It was urged also that if a team .must go, it should be composed of /young players and not All Blacks who were about to retire from -the game. It was decided to write, asking the New Zealand Rugby Union to supply the Canterbury yni'on With a copy of the agreement existing between -the New Zealand a.nd Australian unions. The ball will be set rolling for the local season on Easton Park on ■Saturday, .when practice games' will be played. I,t is too early to predict what Foxton will do -this year in the various grade games, but whatever happens, Foxton will show a united front and should put up -s'ome stubborn opposition.
