GOLF

OPENING OF HERRINGTON LINKS. Beautiful weather prevailed for the opening day of the Herrington Golf Links on Saturday and there were visitors present from Shannon and Levin for the occasion. Mixed foursomes were indulged in during the afternoon and at the afternoon 'tea adjournment the president (Mr. M. B. Bergin) thanked ithe visitors for their attendance and expressed the hope that the club would have a successful year. He said that the club had secured the services of a professional coach during the month of April and he hoped that players would avail themselves of this opportunity of improving their style. The committee had decided to hold mixed foursomes at intervals during the season and this should prove of great social benefit to clulb members. Mr. Bergin then presented the trophy won that afternoon to Mrs. Clark (Levin) and Mr. W. Roach (Foxlton). Mrs. Clark suitably replied and at the same time returned thanks to the Foxton Club on behalf of the visitors for the enjoyable time they bad had and thanked the club for its hospitality.
