A CARELESS ACT.
NAKED LIGHT IN BENZINE TANK. CAUSES CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS. Gisborne, March 27. Early this evening, a youth was filling a car from a 45 gallon drum of benzine through a hose at the baick of a residence in Gladstone road and be used an acetylene lamp to look into the car tank. In a few moments, the car was a mass of flames. In attempting to turn the tap off, the owner of the ear, Mr. C. Randall, was splashed with benzine. His clothes caught fire and he was removed to hospital, where he is reported to be in a serious condition. The brigade was called out and soon after its arrival, the benzine tank exploded, causing consternation amongst the crowd. One motorist in the road, in his hurry to leave, reversed, his gear and knock ■ ed down a small iboy, whose injuries are not believed to be serious.
