ANOTHER ACCIDENT ON LAW’S HILL.

Law’s Hill, jthakara, on which the highway .to Palmerston North takes a number of turns, has been the scene of frequent accidents, which appear to have developed in increasing ratio this year (says the Levin Chronicle). The latest, wMeh occurred shortly after 10 o’clock on Monday night, involved the narrow escape of four persons from probable death, from which they were literally separated Iby a wire fence. A party of Levin people were returning fro|m the Salvation Army harvest festival at 'Shannon, the car being driven by the offijeer of the Levin corps, Ensign Blaikie, and the other occupants being two ladies and a gentleman.

Owing to the engine stopping, the car (went over the bank and fell against the fence, where it was held by the wires from a drop of about 200 feet. W|hen the occupants had recovered from their shock, they walked to Mr. ! R. Law’s residence and aroused Mr. Law, who accompanied them bade to the scene of the mishap to see what could be done towards recovering the ear. iSoon afterwards another car arrived from iShannon, this being a three-seater driven by Mr. C. Fox, of -Wellington, manager of the District Poultry Fanners’ Association, who, .with 'two residents of 'the Levin district, waJs returning from a meeting. As a result of their efforts the first car was hauled up on the road, the rescuing party using their own car for the hauling power and wire borrowed from a fence to form a tow-line, and another line which was connected to the opposite fence to take the 'weight of -the disabled car in Case the first wire should break. A small by-road afforded space for the leading car to Work, Air. Law acting as driver. ‘ After the fallen vehicle had been restored to its position on the road, it -was -tested and found to run all right, the only damage, apparently being to the body.
