FOXTON CLUB’iS annual -REPORT. The following is the text of the annual report to (be submitted to the local Club next Friday:— “During the year the Clulb placefi senior, junior and third grade teams in the field and on -almost every occasion fulfilled its obligations. Keen interest was evinced in the game by the players and the Club was unfortunate ip not winning any of the trophies competed for. The committee gave early and serious consideration to the matter of travelling expenses and assisting players in whatever way possible during the season and a glance at the balancesheet will show that the Club was very liberal in this respect. A complete set of jerseys, sox and pants were purchased together with several emergency sets and two pail’s of boots. These are still in fa/iy, -condition despite the fact that the demand on t'helm was very heavy during the season and they will possibly do service again for another twelve months. The Clulb also has two footballs which are quite good for another season.
“The claim on the vnances has been particularly heavy during the year and there was very little income to add to -the credit balance at file beginning of -the season. .Very 'few efforts were conducted in aid of the Club during the year and the chief source of revenue came from donations and the -percentage of the local gates.
“A friendly visit was made by iSelwyn Fourths during the year -when they met and defeated the Thirds on the racecourse on June 4th. An enjoyable social time was afterwards spent in Walls’ and it is to be hoped that a return match will be arranged -with the Wellington team this year. “Foxton iw-as allocated a representative match during the season and the Rangitikei-Horo'whenu'a match was played on the local racecourse. A £3B gate resulted. “During the year the Club spent a considerable sum of money on ground improvements and were complimented on the condition of No. 1 ground by the Union on the occasion of the representative match.
“The practice shed was again (retained during the past season and was much appreciated by players. “-Several of our player’s received injuries .during the season but fortunately none was of a very serious nature. R. Finlay, who sustained a broken collar-bone while playing for the Juniors was incapacitated for a considerable time but I am pleased to say that he has now completely recovered from his injury- “ The committee made a presentation of a set of jerseys at- the -beginning of the season to the Foxton State School for the use of the school fifteen, the gift being appreciated by the school committee, teachers, children and parents alike. “It is with deep -regret that we -have to record the death of 0. L, Anderson, one of our most promising third grade players who was a keen and enthusiastic member of the Club. “In conclusion I desire to thank the committee for the able assistance it has awalys given me in the past and whose deliberations have always been very helpful. It is re•gretalble that Mr. .W. Currie has left the district as he was a valuable -member on the committee and an ■old player. Mrs. -Currie will also be missed as at all times she gave every assistance in connection with the -social side of clulb life. To the Press and to all those who helped the Club along last season by donations or personal effort I extend any heartiest thanks and hope that they will !be able to again give their co-operation this season.”
