BOROUGH COUNCIL.

'MONTHLY REPORTS. The .monthly reports submitted to last night’s Borough Council meeting were as follows: — GAS MANAGER’S REPORT. The gas manager ( Mr. W. S. Heyes) reported that the plant at the works was operating satisfactorily. During the month live blocked services were attended to. A start was also uiade to overhaul the bed of six retorts. —Adopted. WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT. The waterworks foreman (Mr. W. Neville) reported as follows: — During the month seven house drains were cleaned out, seven hydrants repaired and three valves packed. The top tank of the water tower was cleaned and a man-hole put in in Norhiton Road south sower. During the month 2,775,000 gallons of water waS pumped, the maximum current used being 32 amps. Trouble was experienced during the month in keeping the pump going owing to unevenness in the current but this has now been remedied. A request has been made during the month for a drinking trough at the corner of Park and Victoria Streets, so that drovers would qpt have to ,take stock down to the corner of Russell Street and Avenue Road to water them. The cost of the trough was .estimated at £2 (i.e., using an old wooden trough on hand). —'Adopted. TRAFFIC INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The traffi)c inspector (Mr. Win. Neville) reported that during the mouth two “silent policemen” were put down at the south end of Main Street and since their installation the road on the west side had cut up badly. Several complaints had been received about the manner in which cars were parked in Main Street on Saturday nights and the inspector suggested that in future cars. be made to park either head on or back in on an angle to the footpath on both sides of the street; —Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman (Mr. G. Huntley) reported that during the month the road staff had been engaged on the following works: — Top dressing Johnston and Russell Streets with Colflx and .chips; cleaning footpaths Duncan Street and Lady’s Mile ready for top dressing with tar and ,sand, screening chips and general maintenance work. The work of recoating the above mentioned footpaths will be carried out this month when weather permits. The roading at the junction of park and Victoria Sts. on Main and Union Streets were widened wihere the “silent policemen” were installed.- —Adopted. POUND-KEEPER’S REPORT. The poundikeeper (Mr. W. Neville) reported that during the month eight head ;of stock was impounded and driving fees amounting to 4/- collected. —Adopted.
