MAIN HIGHWAYS.

The Main Highways Board met in Wellington last-week. The official report presented to the meeting included the following reference to local highways. Two small bridges were surfaced with penetration macadam. Shannon Borough Section: The new deviation has been surfaced with crushed metal. Him'atangi-Ashhurst, via Palmerston North. —Rangiotu BridgeCounty Boundary: A contract has been let for surfacing on Foxton Line with bituminous concrete. Approximately 160 chains of foundation work were ‘completed during the month. Awapuni Bridge: A contract has been let for the construction of this bridge, which was carted at the. beginning of the month. All the concrete piles have been east.
