BATCHELOR PLEADS GUILTY.
THEFT OF LARGE SUMS. Christchurch, March 5. In the Magistrate's Court John Black Batchelor, the ex-Christ-church solicitor, was charged with the theft of sum's of £986 and £BOO. Evidence was given on the first charge that the money was paid to Batchelor to complete the purchase of 'a house. Accused gave a cheque to the solicitor for the vendor, but the cheque was dishonoured. In the second instance a woman paid the money to Batchelor to pay off a mortgage. Batchelor’s cheque was again dishonoured. 1 Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
