OTITUARY.
MR, JOHN BETT. The death took place at Palmerston N. on Thursday evening of Mr John Bett, after an illness extending for about six months, aged fiC years. The late Mr Bett was well-known throughout this district and resided at the local seaside for about two years prior to removing to Palmerston N. about six months ago. He was engaged in the coach building trade for many years, and subsequently the motor trade, under the style of Bett and Bayly. Four years ago Mr Bett retired from business and travelled extensively. Deceased was a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church, and belonged to the Alanawatu Kilwinning and Rose Croix Lodges. He was a mefmber of the Fire Board, of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, and for a term president of the Motor Garage Proprietors’ Association. Mr Bett was twice married, his first wife being Miss Carville, who passed away in 1918. There were four children of the first marriage. In 1917 Mi 1 ißett suffered the severe loss of his only son, Robert, who was killed in action at Messines. Surviving Mr Bett are his widow, formerly Miss Evelyn Archer, of Wellington, and three daughters by his first wife, Mesdames B. J. Jacobs and J. A. Grant, of Palmerston North, and Mrs H. M. Palmer, of Plymouth, England, who arrived in Palmerston North on a visit to her late father two weeks ago. The sympathy of a very wide circle of friends in the Manawatu and other districts will be extended to the fa'mi'ly in their bereavement. The funeral took place this afternoon, the Revs. G. T. Brown and W. 11. Nicholas offijeiating at the graveside. A Masonic service followed.
